Making Skincare New Year’s Resolutions

The new year is in full swing! No doubt “New Year, New You” is still ringing in your ears every time you think about your resolutions for 2021. Here at Club West Med Spa, we want to help you become a better you by giving you some tips and tricks on how to up your skincare game throughout the year.

We’ve put together some skincare resolutions that will help your skin look and feel healthier while giving you the radiance you deserve.

Care For More Than Just Your Face

For many people, their skincare routine is mostly focused on their face and reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes. While caring for your face is important, it is also essential to give the rest of your body some love. Especially in the winter months, it is a great idea to invest in a good body moisturizer or lotion and incorporate exfoliating, cleansing, and moisturizing applying these products into your daily routines.

Give Your Lips Some Love Too!

Your lips have some of the most delicate skin on your body, yet it is easy to overlook them in your skincare regimen. If you are only caring for your lips when they are split, chapped, or hurting, you may not be doing enough to care for this part of your body. Gentle exfoliation with a lip scrub once or twice a week, applying lip balm during the day, and using a lip treatment at night can help keep your lips moisturizing and healthy.

Wear More Sunscreen

Regardless of what time of year it is, wearing sunscreen is important. While most of your skin may be covered up in the winter, it is still essential to apply daily SPF to the skin (mainly your face) that is exposed to sunlight. Sunscreen provides a barrier of protection from harmful UV rays and can help slow down signs of aging. This year, if wearing more sunscreen is one of your resolutions, start by using a daily moisturizer that contains SPF!

Avoid Hot Showers

There is nothing better than jumping in a hot shower after a long day or being out in the cold. While the hot water feels good when you are in the shower, it may be doing more harm than good for your skin. The hot water strips your skin of its natural moisturizing oils, which can result in dry skin.

Instead of cranking the heating while you are sudsy up, opt for taking a lukewarm shower, followed by applying lotion and putting on some comfy pajamas or clothes. This can help you get cozy while ensuring your skin retains much-needed moisture.

Stop Sleeping In Your Makeup

We’ve all done it, but sleeping in your makeup is one of the biggest skincare faux pas you can make.

It may seem innocuous to your skin, but sleeping in your makeup can cause it to mix with the oil and dirt built up on the surface of your skin, leading to clogged pores. This, in turn, can cause blackheads and breakouts. Taking a few minutes to remove your makeup and wash your face at the end of the day will keep your skin happy!

Stay Hydrated Inside & Out

Drinking plenty of water is a must no matter the season, as it promotes healthy digestion, improves skin tone, and more. In addition to drinking more water, it is also essential to keep moisture in the air, especially in the winter months. If you do not have a humidifier or two in your home and suffer from dry skin, it is a worthwhile investment and can help ease your discomfort!

Exfoliate

Regularly exfoliating your face and body not only helps remove dead skin but can also help your skin retain more moisture and look more radiant. There are exfoliation products, such as body scrubs, for every skin type, so experiment with different products to see what helps your skin feel its best.
