Do I Need Different Sunscreen for My Face?

Do I Need Different Sunscreen for My Face?

We’ve all been told the importance of SPF time and time again. But, like many others, you’ve probably been left wondering: do I really need a different sunscreen for my face? You’ve probably heard conflicting arguments. This is because the answer may slightly differ for everyone, and the secret may lie in your skin type. Club West Med Spa is here to lay out all the information about choosing the right sunscreen for your face based on your skin type and preferences!

If you are in the Midlothian, VA area, contact us at Club West Med Spa today to learn more!

The Importance of SPF

Need a refresh on the benefits of wearing sunscreen regularly? The list is nearly endless, but here are some of the main reasons!

  • Avoid burns and sun blisters
  • Protect against skin cancer
  • Slow down premature aging
  • Prevent wrinkles & fine lines

Do I Really Need a Different Kind for My Face?

The short answer is technically no–but the long answer is that while you don’t necessarily have to use separate products for your face and body, you should. While you don’t technically need to use a different sunscreen, most dermatologists would recommend it. This is because our face has some of the most sensitive skin on our bodies, which means it reacts differently to products.

Think about it this way: we use different cleansers, moisturizers, and lotions for our face than for our bodies, so it’s not a bad idea to find a sunscreen specifically formulated for your face as well.

So if you’re in a pinch and all you have is regular SPF body lotion–absolutely use it! Regular sunscreen is better than no sunscreen–but when it’s available to you, find a face sunscreen you love and stick with it!

Types of Face Sunscreen

If you are serious about your skincare and are looking to upgrade your summer routine, we’re here to help, and finding a good SPF for your face is a great place to start! There are many different types of facial sunscreen, all suited to a wide range of skin types, lifestyles, and preferences. Here are a few different options!

Chemical

Chemical sunscreen is the most popular type of sunscreen and the type you’ll most commonly find in a drugstore. The chemicals in the formula absorb the sun’s rays and turn them into heat, then release the heat through your skin. If you’re going the chemical route, make sure you’re reapplying more often since the sun causes the sunscreen to break down.

Since there are so many formulas, it’s relatively easy to find an option that blends well with your skin and doesn’t feel too heavy. Before buying one, you should always do your research–some chemicals can be harsh on the skin, especially if you are already sensitive to certain products or fragrances. If you are prone to breakouts, look for an oil-free option.

Mineral

Mineral sunscreen is another option that is typically preferred by those looking for a more natural sunblock. The minerals, which are usually zinc oxide or titanium, act as a barricade between your skin and the UV rays. It’s not quite as seamless as a chemical sunscreen and will often leave a thick and grainy residue on the skin–which is why it’s not always a preferred choice.

Regardless, mineral sunscreen has many benefits. It works well with all skin types, so it can be used universally. It is the best choice for those with sensitive skin since chemical sunscreens can be harsh. Additionally, it is recommended for people with melasma or dark marks because it can prevent hyperpigmentation.

For Your Skin Type

Depending on your skin type, it may be helpful to find sunscreen specifically tailored to you. This is most applicable for those with the more extreme types like oily/acne prone and sensitive.

Not sure what your skin type is? Check out our previous blog post to help determine which skin type you have and which products are best for you!

Tinted/Makeup Based

Tinted sunscreen is another great option, especially if you have acne-prone skin or are just looking for some fuller coverage. There are tons of great options on the market. Additionally, you can find makeup products that contain SPF. This is a great option if you aren’t going to be out in the sun all day.

The Dos & Don’ts of Summer Skin Care

The Dos & Don’ts of Summer Skin Care

The Dos & Don’ts of Summer Skin Care

Just like our closet gets a refresh for every season, so should our skincare routine! This is especially true in the summer since our skin has to adjust to the drastic change in temperature and exposure to the sun. Your skin is the largest organ in your body, so it deserves special attention and care.

We’ve laid out all of the do’s and don’ts of summer skincare so you can be confident in your warm-weather routine. If you are in the Midlothian, VA area, contact us at Club West Med Spa today to learn more!

The Do’s

SPF, SPF, SPF

One more time for the people in the back–SPF!! But seriously, if you do one thing for your skin this summer, lather it up with sunscreen. Those UV rays are great in small doses but can be very damaging to your skin. They can cause premature aging, wrinkles, and dark spots, not to mention painful burns and an increased risk for skin cancer. The best thing you can do when you’re going out in the sun is to protect your skin with an SPF that works for you.

Not sure what type of SPF works best for your skin type? Read our blog about choosing the best skincare for your type to find out!

Find a Good Toner

Toner is a saving grace in the summertime–not only does it feel great on your face, but it also helps shrink your pores! This keeps oil, dirt, sweat, and bacteria out of your pores and keeps your skin healthy. There are tons of toner options on the market that come in scents like rosewater, cucumber, and coconut water. Spray a little on your face for an instant refreshing feeling that keeps your skin clean!

Stay Hydrated

Hydrated skin is happy skin–and soft, firm, and glowing skin. There are SO many reasons to stay hydrated in the summertime, but your skin is an essential one. Keeping yourself hydrated encourages elasticity in your skin, which reduces wrinkles and other signs of aging. It also reduces oil on the skin, which can get heavy when you already have sweat and products built up on your face.

Exfoliate!

Adding an exfoliator to your skincare routine is especially important in the summer. Think about it–after a day in the sun, your face is likely to have a buildup of sweat, sunscreen, makeup, and dirt and debris from being outside. Exfoliating will help get rid of that buildup and help your skin shed those dirty and dried-out layers.

The Don’ts

Limit Sun Exposure

Spending time in the sun is one of the best parts of the summer, we get it; but, too much sun exposure is quite dangerous for your skin. Do your best to stay out of direct sunlight during its peak hours, between 10 AM and 2 PM. You can also use the weather app on your phone to check the UV index (the higher the number, the harsher the UV exposure). The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends staying in the shade as much as possible, and when you are in the sun, be sure to wear sunglasses, light layers of clothing, and a wide-brimmed hat in addition to your SPF.

Avoid Heavy Makeup

Lots of heavy makeup can seriously clog your pores, and with sweat and sunscreen already built up on your face, it can get seriously uncomfortable. It’s essential to let your skin breathe in the summer, so it’s best to embrace your natural skin and lighten up on the makeup. Your skin will thank you!

Don’t Neglect the Forgotten Areas

The “forgotten areas” are just what they sound like–the parts of our bodies that most of us don’t think about including in our skincare routine. The biggest ones are lips, ears, neck, hands, and feet, and they need love too! When applying sunscreen, be sure not to forget about any of these areas. Try to find a lip balm with SPF in it and make sure your lips are nice and moisturized! Plus, staying hydrated will help keep your lips smooth as well.

Keep Shower Time Short

It might feel natural to bathe more often in the warmer months since we’re sweating and getting outside more, but this can actually be detrimental to your skin. Showering too much and for too long can be seriously drying to your skin, which is already fighting through sun exposure. If you can, cut your showers down to quick five-minute rinses as opposed to 20-minute soaks.

Additionally, if you have an oily skin type, excess washing can actually cause increased oil production to overcompensate. Extra oil on your skin is the last thing you want in the summer, so keep the rinsing to a minimum!

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Do you feel like you’ve tried every hair removal technique out there and still aren’t seeing the results you want? Trust us, we’ve been there. With so many different treatments out there, it’s easy to get caught up trying everything under the sun. The good news is there is an option that will leave you with the results you’ve been looking for–laser hair removal!

We’ve laid out lots of information about laser hair removal and why it could be a fantastic option for you. If you are in the Midlothian, VA area and are interested in laser hair removal treatments, contact us at Club West Med Spa today!

How Does it Work?

Laser hair removal is one of the top options for hair removal because of its many benefits–but how does it even work? Before your appointment, you will be asked to shave the area (some places may do it for you but others may turn you away if you haven’t shaved!). Your technician will administer the laser to your area of choice in short bursts. In doing so, the laser is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle and damages it to prevent or slow down further hair growth. Many machines also release a cooling shot afterward to help soothe the area. In just a few shots from the laser, you are done!

Am I a Good Candidate?

While laser hair removal is a wonderful treatment option for hair removal, it’s not suited to everyone. It is much more effective for those with dark and coarse hair because the laser interacts with the melanin pigment in the hair. Because of this, the lasers are not as effective in picking up lighter, finer hairs. Additionally, be aware that it works best on lighter skin and can cause hyperpigmentation on dark skin.

Why Should I Get Laser Hair Removal?

Save Money in the Long Run

Look at laser hair removal as an investment! Just think about all the money you have spent on other hair removal treatments like waxing, shaving, and other products. Additionally, laser treatments may not be as expensive as you think. Price varies from office to office, but in many places, you can find laser hair removal for less than $100 a session. With sessions spaced out over a month or so, it’s manageable to factor into your budget in the long run!

It’s Easy To Fit Into Your Everyday Routine

Laser hair removal treatments are extremely quick. The length of your appointment will vary depending on the size of the area you are treating–your session may take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour. You will be amazed at how quickly you can get in and out of your appointment! Plus, the recovery time is short, unlike waxing. You may experience some redness immediately after receiving treatment, but it tends to fade rather quickly so you can go about your day as usual!

It Can Be Done Anywhere

From the smallest patch of hair to an entire body part, laser hair removal can be used on any area of the body. From your upper lip, underarms, legs, bikini area, or arms, it can target unwanted hair just about anywhere! Going on vacation? Never want to deal with shaving your legs again? Want to get rid of those random chin hairs that always seem to grow back? Try laser hair removal! The possibilities are endless.

You Might Find it Less Painful Than Waxing

It’s no secret that hair removal can be a pretty painful experience. While laser hair removal certainly isn’t painless, many people consider it not much worse than uncomfortable. The lasers are expressed in a few quick bursts, so the pain isn’t prolonged–it’s often likened to the feeling of a rubber band snapping. Compared to waxing, which removes a layer of your skin and can even cause burning, the pain from the laser is much more bearable to some. Your technician will also apply aloe or another soothing gel to help heal the area afterward!

There’s No “Growing Out” Phase

When you decide to move forward with laser hair removal, you will receive a series of treatments that are typically spaced out with 4-6 weeks in between. Unlike the majority of other hair removal methods though, you don’t have to worry about growing out your hair in between sessions. In fact, you shouldn’t–shaving actually helps the laser pick up the hair follicle easier! You will likely be asked to shave the area being treated ahead of your appointment. No more feeling awkward when you’re out and about in your “growing out” phase!

It Provides Long-Lasting Results

One of the main draws and benefits of laser hair removal is its semi-permanent nature. You will likely need to get it touched up a few months after your last session, but it is far more effective in long-term hair removal than any other treatment option. Some people even find the results last for years!

Using the Right Products for Your Skin Type

Using the Right Products for Your Skin Type

We all know the importance of taking care of your skin, but having an extensive, multi-step skincare routine doesn’t necessarily mean it’s effective. When it comes to choosing the right exfoliant, cleanser, moisturizer, toner, and masks, it’s important to know your skin type to ensure you are targeting your problem areas. For example, you might think that your moisturizer is helping hydrate your dry skin, but it may in fact be irritating it even more. We are here to help you determine which of the five skin types you have, and which products to look for–and avoid–while you are building your skincare regimen!

If you are in the Midlothian, VA area and are interested in beginning treatments targeted for your skin type, contact us at Club West Med Spa today! We are excited to join you on your skincare journey.

Normal Skin

If you have normal skin, you’re one of the lucky ones. Normal skin is neither oily nor dry, and doesn’t get too sensitive when using different products. However, it is still vital to take good care of your skin to ensure that it stays healthy.

Products for Normal Skin

Everything! No, this wasn’t a trick question–normal skin is highly tolerable of different ingredients, which means you can experiment with your routine to find what works best for you. Regardless, we still recommend you start with a good base: a gentle cleanser, exfoliator, and a moisturizer that contains SPF. If you start there, then build up with your favorite toners, serums, and masks, you’ll be golden!

Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you likely don’t need us to tell you that you do. Your skin will appear shiny and you may be prone to acne, blackheads, and blemishes. A common misconception is that you should overwash your face to prevent oiliness–in fact, this actually dries out your skin even more, which causes your skin to produce more oil to compensate. This is where the importance of oil-targeting products comes in.

Products for Oily Skin

In general, look for products labeled “non-comedogenic”, as they won’t clog your pores. Choose a salicylic acid cleanser to help purify and exfoliate while removing irritants and bacteria from pores. You can also rotate this with a mild cleanser. As far as moisturizers go, choose something oil-free. In addition, clay masks are the perfect choice for a little extra self-care for your skin. Remember to not wash your face more than twice a day and use SPF daily!

Dry Skin

Dry skin is often caused by external factors like the weather, the temperature at which you keep your home, medications you may be taking, or even if you aren’t drinking enough water! If you have rough patches, areas that are flaky and irritated, or itchy red skin, you likely have dry skin. It is important to find products that target dryness in order to achieve hydration, smoothness, and elasticity in your skin.

Products for Dry Skin

Products with harsh fragrances and scents can be very drying to the skin, so try to shop for hydrating cleansers with minimal fragrances. Finding the right moisturizer is key–go for something rich and creamy, or even an ointment. Remember to apply creams right after you wash your face to prevent your skin from drying out quickly! And, as always, make sure you are applying a hydrating SPF every day.

Combination Skin

If you have combination skin, your skin may feel oily in some areas and dry in others. You may notice that certain areas are prone to blackheads and shine, especially in your T-zone, while the rest of your face is dry. This skin type can be tricky to find products for since there is a fine line between oily and dry skin.

Products for Combination Skin

Your main goal when aiming to treat combination skin is balance. In general, avoid harsh alcohol-based products that will dry out your skin more or cause irritation. A lightweight gel moisturizer will work best. Next, target your T-zone with a toner to balance out the area. Lastly, make sure to use SPF every day to protect your skin from sun damage!

Sensitive Skin

Do you find your skin stinging, burning, turning red, or just becoming generally irritated when you use certain products? You likely have sensitive skin, which is generally triggered by specific ingredients or products. Trial and error can help you determine what it is that sets your skin off.

Products for Sensitive Skin

Finding the right products is especially critical for those with sensitive skin, as you may experience great discomfort if you don’t. When shopping for skincare products, try to look for items that are designed specifically for sensitive skin. Make sure to avoid harsh ingredients like alcohol, fragrances, and sulfates because these will irritate your skin further. Fragrance-free moisturizers with SPF will keep your skin hydrated without weighing it down.

Get the Results You’re Looking for With Your Skincare Routine

When it comes to choosing the right skincare products for you, paying close attention to your skin is key. Once you are aware of what your skin likes and what it doesn’t, or how it reacts to certain products, you can determine the areas you should be targeting. Interested in taking the next step and starting treatments specifically designed for your skin? We have a wide range of facials, treatments, and products at our Midlothian, VA location that are curated just for you. Contact Club West Med Spa today to get started!

New Year, New You: Emsculpt Neo vs CoolSculpting

With the year quickly coming to an end, the new year’s resolutions are piling up in our minds. If you’re struggling to get rid of excess body fat and feel confident in yourself again, non-invasive body contouring may be the perfect solution.

Emsculpt Neo and CoolSculpting are scientifically proven methods to diminish specific areas of fat pockets and tone your body. Club West Med Spa in Chesterfield County and Central Virginia is here to help you figure out which body contouring treatment is right for you.

Say goodbye to endless weight training with no results and say hello to a new and improved you. If you’re ready to discover how these innovative treatments can help you this next year, contact us today to schedule a consultation.

What is Emsculpt Neo?

EMSCULPT NEO is the first and only non-invasive body shaping procedure that provides simultaneous fat elimination and muscle building in a combined 30-minute session. The procedure is minimally invasive and virtually painless and works by combining radiofrequency (RF) heat energy with high levels of high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM™) energy.

A few minutes into the procedure, the temperature in subcutaneous fat reaches levels that cause apoptosis when the fat cells are permanently damaged and slowly removed from the body. Extreme stress from apoptosis forces the muscle to adapt, increasing the number and growth of muscle fibers and cells.

What are the pros?

For the right candidate, Emsculpt offers many benefits and advantages. Some of the pros of body contouring treatment include:

  • Non-Invasive
    • While you need multiple treatment sessions to get the best results from Emsculpt, each session is short and non-invasive. Patients can lift and tone their bodies without being put under anesthesia. EMSculpt targets the muscle tissue without affecting the skin, so you don’t have to worry about scarring or stitches.
  • No Recovery Time
    • Since Emsculpt is non-invasive and relatively comfortable, most people can go back to their routine activities after treatment. You don’t have to be out of work or on rest for days. Some individuals engage in vigorous exercise a day or two after. Emsculpt provides surgery results without the knife and downtime.
  • Boosts Metabolism
    • While other body shaping treatments only focus on removing fat, Emsculpt focuses on toning and building muscle. Full remodeling of the muscular structure allows for increased fat metabolism. If combined with physical therapy sessions, Emsculpt can speed up the recovery process.

What are the cons?

Although Emsculpt is non-invasive, there are some risks and drawbacks to be aware of when receiving treatment, as with any cosmetic treatment. These side effects include:

  • Intense Sessions
    • Emsculpt isn’t uncomfortable or painful, but the treatment can feel like a vigorous workout at the gym. Not everyone will withstand this treatment when the electromagnetic waves are causing more muscle contractions than you could do during an intense workout.
  • Soreness or Fatigue
    • Since Emsculpt is not an invasive surgery, there is no downtime after, but you may feel a sense of soreness or fatigue. The soreness in the treated area can feel similar to after an intense workout at the gym. However, the soreness and fatigue only last for about a day or two after.
  • Not an Exercise Replacement
    • Emsculpt isn’t a one-and-done treatment, and you cannot rely solely on the procedure to keep fat off and muscles toned. Although it leads to muscle contractions, you’ll still want to maintain or start an exercise routine to maintain your muscle structure and fat loss. The treatment is not an exercise replacement.

What is Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting is another non-surgical method to remove fat cells and achieve a more toned physique quickly. By utilizing two paddles to freeze fat cells to the point of breakdown, The treatment takes a few sessions to deliver results, but over time, the body gets rid of the fat cells damaged during the procedure.

CoolSculpting is not uncomfortable or painful, but you may feel minor pinching and numbness during the procedure. The treatment can last around an hour, and most patients can just sit back and relax while enduring it. If you have trouble areas along the stomach, waist, and buttock areas, this treatment may be the perfect solution for you.

What are the pros?

When there’s a virtually painless method to diminishing fat cells, why wouldn’t you want to try it out? Many people choose Coolsculpting to start their new year with a toned body. Learn about some of the reasons why:

  • No Hospital or Surgery
    • Forget needles, knives, and surgical protocols with this non-invasive fat-loss technique by cosmetic experts. With Coolsculpting, you don’t need to go to the hospital or prep for days as you do for surgery. The procedure can be done right in a dermatologist’s office during your break or after work.
  • No Downtime or Recovery Period
    • There is no need to prep before the treatment, which means no fasting or medications before or after the procedure. After the treatment is complete, you don’t have to worry about taking it easy or changing your daily routine. It is a great fat loss procedure if you cannot afford to miss work but still want a slimmer body.
  • Little Discomfort or Damage
    • Precision and technique are used to control the freezing on your body, and technology will turn off if your skin gets too cold. The gel pads used during Coolsculpting help protect your body as the handpiece draws the fat closer to the surface, leaving your muscle and tissue untouched. You are guaranteed a safe and effective procedure.

What are the cons?

Like any cosmetic procedure, Coolsculpting does have its disadvantages. Here are some things you should consider before receiving treatment:

  • Swelling or Bruising
    • After treatment, you may experience some swelling or redness in the targeted areas. This may be bothersome and visually unappealing, but the bruising and reduced sensation should go away within a couple of days. The skin is virtually left unharmed since the area is never cut into.
  • Bloating or Severe Numbing
    • These are less common side effects and happen only in rare cases. However, it is possible to feel bloated along the contact area for a few days. If you feel severe numbing on the skin or extreme pain around the site, you must contact your doctor immediately.
  • Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia
    • This side effect of Coolsculpting can enlarge the treated area rather than minimize it. When this happens, your fat cells expand instead of break down, and it will not go away with typical diets or exercise. It is an extremely rare side effect but can be removed with liposuction.

How Are You Going to Improve This Year?

At Club West Med Spa, we are dedicated to helping clients better themselves and achieve the look they want. Both Emsculpt and Coolsculpting use different forms of magnetic stimulation to tighten and tone muscles. They both require four treatments and are FDA-approved for the butt, thighs, and abs.

You now have the knowledge to decide which treatment is right for your body and lifestyle. Our team is always here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Recommended Therapy: Aesthetic Airbrush Tanning Sessions

Fall & Winter Skin Care Tips

Autumn is well underway, and with winter right around the corner, your skin might be feeling the seasonal shift!

Even though the temperatures don’t drop to sub-zero levels in the Greater Richmond region, the moderate cold we experience in this part of Virginia can still do a number on our skin.

Based in Midlothian, VA, Club West Med Spa has seen what the winter can do to people’s skin ‒ and we’re here to share our best fall and winter skin care tips so you can maintain the softness and suppleness of your skin, no matter how cold and dry it gets to be outside!

Moisturize Every Day

As the weather gets colder, our skin is more prone to becoming dry. By moisturizing every day, you can prevent dryness and irritation and maintain a soft and healthy complexion.

Even if you are already moisturizing every day, your skin may be extra sensitive to the cold. You may not be moisturizing enough, and if you need to moisturize 2-3 times per day in the fall and winter, you should. Or, it very well may be time to switch up your moisturizer and opt for one that is thicker or contains natural ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, aloe, or oat.

Chances are that you moisturize your skin after taking a shower. In the fall and wintertime, nothing beats a hot shower, but you could be doing your skin and moisturizer a disservice by staying in a hot shower for too long. Hot water will dry your skin out, so we recommend turning the heat down, taking shorter showers, and pat drying your skin afterward with a towel.

Humidify Your Home

Between the cold temperatures and the dry air caused by heating systems, moisturizing your skin every day may not cut it. With that said, we recommend maintaining a moist environment in your home.

Using a humidifier is the best way to add moisture to dry air, but there are other measures you can take:

  • Add houseplants to your home.
  • Open the bathroom door when taking a steamy shower.
  • Minimize use of your dryer (& hang clothes to dry.)
  • Cook more on the stovetop or boil more water.
  • Place bowls of water near radiators/heat registers.

Humidifying your home will not only prevent skin dryness but will also ward off a scratchy throat, dry cough, cracked lips, static electricity, and sinus headaches.

Pamper Yourself at Home

We indeed spend more time indoors during the cold months. So while you’re watching Netflix or staying cozy at home, give your skin some much-needed TLC.

Create a relaxing, spa-like environment at home by lighting some candles, dimming the lights, and playing ambient music. Before giving yourself a facial, remove all makeup and thoroughly wash your face with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based cleanser. Steam your skin by hovering your face over a bowl of hot water and placing a towel over your head.

Exfoliating your skin will remove dead skin cells and promote new cell growth. However, limit your exfoliation treatments to one to two times per month. Over-exfoliation can make skin more prone to dryness and inflammation in the winter. After exfoliating, make sure you apply hydrating moisturizers and serums.

Treat Yourself to a Day at the Spa

When you need a little getaway from the chilly temperatures and the daily grind, treat yourself to a day at a spa!

Whether you’d like to pamper yourself with facials, massages, medical spa treatment, or a combination of these services, Club West Med Spa has something in store for you to curb the wintertime blues and make you feel refreshed and anew.

After all, relaxing and minimizing stress are essential to maintaining healthy, glowing skin ‒ and our aestheticians would be happy to share more personal fall and winter skin care tips with you.

Nourish & Hydrate Yourself

Eating right and drinking enough water is important year-round. But when it comes to preventing dry skin in the fall and winter, staying nourished and hydrated can go the extra mile for your complexion.

As a general rule of thumb, adults should drink four to six cups of water each day. You can vary up your water intake by infusing water or herbal tea with lemons or oranges. (Citrus fruits contain high levels of antioxidants which can help remove dead skin cells and encourage new cell growth.) You can also supplement your beverages with collagen supplements.

What are the best foods to eat for healthy skin in the wintertime? Here’s a breakdown:

  • Salmon & other fatty fish (for their rich supply of skin-boosting omega-3 fatty acids.)
  • Avocados (fortunately, they are in season from January through March!)
  • Pumpkin seeds (they are high in zinc & make a great snack.)
  • Sweet potatoes (a great source of vitamin A that pairs well with protein on a cold night.)
  • Homemade broccoli or butternut squash soup (delicious in the winter AND great for hair & skin!)

Instead of indulging in holiday cookies, alcohol, and pies over the fall and winter, curb your sweet tooth with a serving of dark chocolate (1-2 oz, or about 1 to 2 squares). Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which can protect your skin and leave it feeling smooth and plump. Make sure your chocolate is at least 70% cocoa. Sugary milk chocolate can increase your chances of an acne breakout.
