FAQs
What exactly is waxing?
Waxing is a form of hair removal that removes the entire hair from the hair follicle. Warm wax is applied to the skin and adheres to the hair. When removed, the hair is pulled from the root.
Does waxing hurt?
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but you can expect a short, stinging sensation after the strip is pulled. If you are worried about being sensitive, taking an ibuprofen or aspirin about 30 minutes before your appointment should minimize your discomfort (consult with your physician before taking medications).
How do I prepare for treatment?
In order for waxing services to have best results the hair needs to be at least the length of a grain of rice. We recommend not shaving inbetween waxing services in order for the wax to pick up all the hairs in the treatment area. Clean, lotion-free skin is best before waxing treatments as well!
How long can I expect my waxing to last?
If you’ve allowed your hair to grow out to the proper length prior to waxing, you can expect to be hair-free for a minimum of 1-2 weeks following your appointment.
Will my hair grow back thinner or darker?
No, waxing actually has the opposite effect so it will not back in any thicker or darker. Since the hair is removed at the root over time, hair will grow in finer and softer to the touch.
Can I be waxed if I’m taking Retin A, Renova, Differin, or Accutane?
No, these medications will cause an adverse reaction to waxing. These medications increase the rate of your skin’s natural exfoliation process, so waxing could potentially remove skin as well as hair. Please let your technician know immediately if you are on any medications. Also be aware that chemical peels, laser, and micro-dermabrasion can also affect skin and appointments may need to be rescheduled if you have received one of these treatments within 2 weeks before your waxing appointment.
Other medications to be aware of?
There are many medications that affect skin: glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, vitamin A, prescribed exfoliating scrubs, antibiotics, hormonal medications, radiation and/or chemotherapy drugs. Please consult with your physician in regard to any medications and how they may affect your waxing experience. Let your technician know if you are on any of these medications when you are making your appointment.
What’s the difference between a bikini wax, a barely Brazilian, and a Brazilian bikini wax?
• Bikini – hair will be removed that extends outside of the panty line or crease of the thigh.
• Barely Brazilian – a thin strip of hair will be left down the middle of the bikini area.
• Brazilian Bikini – all hair removed including backside (some prefer leaving a small patch in front).
